Miles for Meag: AFSP
Out of The Darkness Walk

HCCC

October 2nd, 2022

Miles for Meag partnered up with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and participated in the Out of The Darkness Walk in October of 2022. Our Miles for Meag team was the third highest team, raising $2,400. Herkimer county had a goal of $15,000 and we surpassed that with funds raised at $25,751.

The AFSP holds Out of The Darkness Walks in cities nationwide.  Through these walks, those affected by suicide and those who can support them raise awareness and much needed funds, strongly sending the message that suicide can be preventable, and that no one is alone.

Miles for Meag 5K

Sponsored by The Fitness Connection, Barneveld, NY

May 14th, 2022

In May of 2022, seven weeks after Meag's passing, the community rallied for the Miles for Meag 5K run/walk.

The race was a stepping stone to getting the message out to parents, teachers and children to look out for any warning signs and to talk openly about suicide.

Seven weeks seems like forever when you've lost someone you love. In the seven weeks since losing Meag, Tracy Stewart, Krissi Newtown and Nicole Martin organized the 5K in Meag's name with a goal of starting a suicide prevention local chapter. Another goal was to raise funds to offer support to families who lose a child to suicide.
